Assin South: Natural Disasters are not spiritually inclined – NADMO Director

The Assin South Director for National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Mr. Brewu has clearly stated that, we should stop seeing every natural disaster as spiritually inclined but rather intensify education on disaster preventions.

His comment comes after thunder killed married couples at Assin Andoe, Thursday.

In an interview with the media he advised the public to always switch off mobile phone, Television, sockets and other electrical gadget when it is raining because there is a possibility of it causing a disaster

He said, it saddens his heart that people always disregards them anytime they conduct a public education on disaster prevention.

BACKGROUND:

Thunder strike couple to dead after a heavy downpour Thursday evening at Assin Andoe Sibo Nkwanta in the Assin South District of the Central Region.The deceased couple was Emmanuel Botwey 27, and Rita Nketia 26.

According to an eyewitness, Opanin Yaw Mensah, who is the father of the late Rita Nketia and in-law of Emmanuel Botwey he said, they were clearing a portion of land when the rain started, so they stopped and stood at one place using plantain leaves as a canopy, we saw the first lightening and we wanted to go home but the rain was too heavy: suddenly there was another strange lightening and instantly i saw my wife, daughter and my son in-law on the ground lifeless, my wife gain consciousness after some minutes but my daughter and son in law could not wake up again, he added.

Opayin Yaw Mensah in an interview with the media confirmed that, the deceased couple were saving together to buy a plot of land, on the Wednesday, Emmanuel Botwey took Gh20 from the savings to watch Eufa Champions League match and that resulted in a verbal fight: he said, they allegedly curse themselves not to marry each other again else thunder should strike them dead.

Mr. Brewu finally advised farmers to always put down their cutlasses and hoe whenever its rains while they are in the farm.
