Kindly consider the welfare of journalist in the country – Newscaster pleads with Government

A talented and an award winning female newscaster at an Assin Fosu based radio station Rich Fm, Obaapa Akosua Konadu has pleaded with the government of to make provisions for journalist in the country especially  those in the private media houses. She said, journalist plays a pivotal role in the development of our country by serving as a middleman between the people and the government but, they are the worst paid workers in the country: some media houses pays as low as Gh100 as a monthly salary which is so sad and nothing to write home about.

According to her, it saddens her heart that, journalist has being fighting for nurses on their allowances and postings, teachers and their allowances, pressure groups, markets women, cocoa farmers on the price of cocoa and other farming inputs but have no organization to fight for the welfare of these journalist which is very troubling and heartbreaking.

The 2019/2020 Central Regional Best Newscaster on behalf of her fellow journalist urged this and successive governments to have a second look at the welfare of journalist being it private media or state owned.

She opined that, if government is able to pay teacher trainees allowances, nursing trainee’s allowances and other incentives for government workers, there can also be an allowance or an incentive for journalist which will be general across the country, though some of us works for a private entity but at the end of the day we are all serving the interest of mother Ghana, she added.

Obaapa Akosua Konadu  of Rich Fm was crowned The Best Newscaster in the central region ahead of  Obaapa Adwoa Adobea Sweet fm, Omanhene Kwame Addo Ahomka fm, Nhyiraba Aduomi Benya fm, Abrewaba Maakua Tawiah, Obrempong fm and Akua Serwaa, Nkwa fm at the just ended Foklex Media awards.
