The Assin Fosu Municipal Chief Executive Hon.Nicholas Fifi Baako has said, an amount of Gh 40,000 is being spent on dredging the Betinsin river which flooded and cause many havoc to the residents of Butuase in the Trafo electoral area last year. He said, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Hon Kennedy Ohene Agyapong made a cash contribution of Gh 20,000 while the Fosu Municipal Assembly also contributed the rest Gh 20,000.
Hon. Fiifi Baako made these revelations when he paid a visit to the contractor who was on site yesterday.
He said, they are dredging up to 800meters stretch of the river.
According to him, the Assembly will receive a fund from urban roads and that amount will be used for desilting other choked gutter in the municipality ,all the procurement documents about the collapsed bridge at Zongo Junction has been processed pending approval, he added.
The Municipal Chief Executive pleaded with the citizenry to contribute their quota towards the development of our community and the country as a whole. He said, the Gh 40,000 that is being spent on the dredging could have been invested into other productive venture if our attitudes towards the environment was good.
He said, the law will be enforced strictly if the assembly caught anyone disposing refuse into the River or amy other gutter.
He finally called on the Assembly Members, Chiefs, Religious Leaders, the Media to also do their part by educating the populace about the need to keep the environment clean and the effects if we do otherwise. The dredging will be completed in the next two to three weeks :” all things being equal “.
